and the Costco said let there be DAYlight!!

This is my first official product endorsement, second if you count film.  I headed down to costco and picked up these daylight balanced light bulbs for my hallway, room, closet and bathroom and they are AWESOME.

Allow me to elaborate:

The light is the same color temperature (almsot) as daylight.  This means your computer monitor wont have a blue and an orange cast on it at the same time while you are editing your photos trying to get the color right.  This is also super convenient if you ever shoot in these places which I do all the time because the light is the same color temperature as the windows and most likely the film I am using.  These are also energy saver bulbs that last forever and were only $10 for 6.  They are a little dim but I just picked up a lamp and threw a few more in and I think a less frosty glass cover for my main light would really help.  It takes some getting used to but I would really recommend this to everyone but especially photographers.

let me explain…

No there is not enough time.  Let me me sum up.

Canon EOS-1V 17-4oL @f4.0 Fuji 400H 35mm film.

I think this image from last weekend pretty much sums up Hollywood for me.  I am curious to see some other people’s images that sum up a city in a single picture to them.

Readysetgo!

Welcoming new members of the family

I added two new cameras to my collection.  I am starting to feel like the old woman who lived in the shoe.  I have a tiny room that is knee deep in camera gear at its absolute cleanest.

Thanks to Cassie for these!  She is selling some other really cool stuff so go check it out.

A Moment of Clarity

The number one question I get asked as a photographer aside from technical details is probably: “Where do you get your ideas?” or “What inspires you?”.  I myself have asked this question of a few photographers.  For me the truth is that I really have no idea.  I don’t have a process or even a generally common set of circumstances for generating ideas for images.  Usually I just find myself thinking of an image that was not there before.  Such was the case with the latest concept shoot I did with a Peter Pan theme.  One day I realized I had been thinking about the cast of Peter Pan in some sort of attire that was The Rocketeer meets steampunk.

I can’t give enough thanks to the models or stylists for physically making a thought of mine exist.  It is such a thrilling process to watch them work.  If you are not already you should really check out their blogs, websites and facebook fan pages to see some really inspiring work.

It’s all about to change

My best of best friends Tim and Lara recently had their first child.  Since Lara was being induced and they knew more or less exactly when the baby was going to be born I thought it would be fun to take some shots right before they went to bed the night before.

A New Favorite

Sometimes it can be so hard to break away from what you know how to shoot and try something really new.  I have had an idea kicking around about reading underwater and this was the first attempt to execute it.

Kodak Tri-X film (pushed 2 stops to iso 1600)/Contax 645/80mm lens @ f2.8
