All In the Family

My sister Shannon has been modeling for about six years and I have been shooting pretty seriously for about three so you can imagine how many shoots we have done together… Well actually we have only done this one.  I don’t know what it is about shooting people really close to me but I have a hard time distancing myself from the person I know so well to focus on creating art more objectively.  Fortunately these turned out pretty good.  Shoot for the Acaydia School of Aesthetics in Provo, Utah.

Before They Were Stars

People seem to be fascinated by pictures of famous people as children.  Here is a unique perspective on that.  Behold pictures of the world famous Violet about 20 years before she changed the world.

Behind the Scenes

You have probably seen a lot of behind the scenes stills and videos from shoot but I doubt many of them have this courage to show the untamed beast in it’s natural habitat.  Here are our local fine artists at their finest.

A Special Filmy Feeling

Tonight was great.  A lot of things that could have gone wrong went right and the result was magic.  My friend Shay is in town getting fitted for her wedding dress (yay!) and we have never had a really proper shoot together.  Tonight was the same as usual for us, 10 minutes to shoot and no real plan.  My wonderful and amazing talented friend Tara Starling let us shoot in her super cool store Anastasia’s Attic in West Jordan.  This store is full of really cool clothes and accessories and I highly recommend it to all you ladies who like getting glitter stars, pirate stuff, amazing chocolate etc etc etc.

Anyway with very little time, only 400 speed film, very low tungsten only light and nothing but a dressing room to shoot in here is what we got.  These were all taken on a Contax 645 on Fuji 400H film at f2.0 at 1/30th of a second.

a place for pictures

Pictureline is easily my favorite camera store and not just because it’s the only real one close to where I live.  The customer service is just incredible.  I love how friendly the staff are and how they really get to know you and your needs.  Here they are on fuji 100b and a polaroid 600se

and the Costco said let there be DAYlight!!

This is my first official product endorsement, second if you count film.  I headed down to costco and picked up these daylight balanced light bulbs for my hallway, room, closet and bathroom and they are AWESOME.

Allow me to elaborate:

The light is the same color temperature (almsot) as daylight.  This means your computer monitor wont have a blue and an orange cast on it at the same time while you are editing your photos trying to get the color right.  This is also super convenient if you ever shoot in these places which I do all the time because the light is the same color temperature as the windows and most likely the film I am using.  These are also energy saver bulbs that last forever and were only $10 for 6.  They are a little dim but I just picked up a lamp and threw a few more in and I think a less frosty glass cover for my main light would really help.  It takes some getting used to but I would really recommend this to everyone but especially photographers.

let me explain…

No there is not enough time.  Let me me sum up.

Canon EOS-1V 17-4oL @f4.0 Fuji 400H 35mm film.

I think this image from last weekend pretty much sums up Hollywood for me.  I am curious to see some other people’s images that sum up a city in a single picture to them.

Readysetgo!
